FAQ
How must the wine be packaged?
Your wine must be safely packaged for transport in a protective shipping container. Shipping boxes are available at many of the region’s wineries as well as shipping providers such as U-Haul and will vary in price. Please note that it’s your responsibility to be sure the wine is properly packaged for checking as luggage. Advise the Alaska Airlines agent when you check in so the box can be properly labeled with FRAGILE stickers. Items packaged in cardboard boxes are covered in case of loss, but are checked at your own risk for damage. View Alaska Airlines’ Checked Baggage Policies for more details.
How many cases are allowed?
Each Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan member aged 21 and over with an Alaska Airlines flight departing from Oregon, Washington, Idaho, or California will be allowed one (1) case of 6 or 12 bottles to be checked free of charge. Passengers with additional cases will be charged the regular baggage fee.
What if I’m connecting to another airline?
Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan passengers can check their first case of wine at no charge to their final destination in the United States even if travel includes another airline, unless the case is retrieved from baggage and rechecked at any stopover.
Does the Oregon Wines Fly Free program apply to all 50 states and international flights?
The Wine Flies Free program applies only to travel within the United States. You can pay the standard baggage fee to have wine checked through on international flights, but please note that passengers must meet the customs requirements of the destination country.
At which airports can I check a case of wine for free?
You may check a case of wine for free on Alaska Airlines flights departing from Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and California.
How do Alaska Airlines passengers redeem their complimentary wine tastings at participating wineries?
At participating wineries that normally charge a tasting fee, passengers can enjoy a free tasting by presenting their current (within 10 days of arrival) in-bound Alaska Airlines boarding pass and proof of membership in the Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan. One waived tasting fee is available per boarding pass per winery. Holiday weekends and special events are excluded.
